Super Visa Insurance Refunds: Questions to Ask

There is no single refund promise for every Super Visa insurance policy. Before purchasing, ask how the specific plan handles cancellation before it starts, a visa refusal, an early return and a claim. These are different situations and may have different rules.

Before the policy takes effect

Ask for the cancellation deadline, required documents, administration charges and how money is returned. If travel is delayed, ask whether changing the effective date is possible instead of cancelling. Do not assume a new date is in place until the insurer confirms it.

If a visa is refused

Keep the refusal letter and contact the insurer or advisor promptly. Ask whether a visa-refusal provision applies, what evidence is required and whether any fees are excluded from a refund. Read the exceptions before relying on a general sales statement of “fully refundable.”

If your parent returns home early

Ask whether unused days are refundable, whether a minimum refund applies and how a submitted or pending claim affects eligibility. Request the documents needed to establish the departure date. An early flight does not necessarily cancel the policy automatically.

Manulife's visitors-insurance overview notes that cancellation and full or partial refunds depend on the provider and circumstances. General guidance does not replace your plan's refund clause.

A practical cancellation checklist

  1. Find the policy number, insured person's name and policy dates.
  2. Describe the reason for cancellation and the requested effective date.
  3. Ask which supporting documents and claim declarations are required.
  4. Request a written calculation of the refund, deductions and payment method.
  5. Keep the insurer's cancellation confirmation and refund record.

Do not cancel coverage still needed for an ongoing stay or future entry without discussing the consequences. A refund enquiry and an instruction to cancel are different: make your intent clear.

Read monthly versus annual premiums or contact Rajni Bala about a new policy. Refunds under an existing contract are decided by the insurer; this website cannot promise a particular outcome.
