Super Visa Insurance: Monthly vs Annual Payments

Monthly Super Visa insurance payments can change when a family pays, but do not automatically change the insurance protection. Compare the policy first, then the payment arrangement. A small advertised monthly amount is not enough information to judge the full cost or whether the plan suits your family.

Are instalments accepted?

IRCC's proof-of-insurance instructions permit insurance paid in full or by instalments with a deposit. A quote alone is not proof of insurance. The policy must also meet the required coverage and duration rules. Confirm the documents the insurer will issue before relying on a payment receipt for the application.

Compare the total payable

Request two written totals for the same insured person, dates, coverage limit, deductible and medical assumptions. For instalments, ask for the deposit, remaining payment schedule and fees. For annual payment, ask for the full premium and applicable charges. Do not assume every provider offers instalments or that every instalment plan costs more.

  • How much is due before the policy is issued?
  • What amount remains, and when is it collected?
  • Are administration or financing fees refundable?
  • What happens if a payment fails or the card expires?
  • Who should be contacted if the arrival date changes?

Payment flexibility is not cancellation flexibility

Ask what you would owe if the visa is refused, the visit is delayed or your parent leaves early. Do not treat monthly payments as a month-to-month subscription unless the contract explicitly says so. Stopping payments is not a substitute for requesting cancellation.

Choose a schedule you can maintain

Write the payment dates alongside the family budget and decide who manages notices. Keep the policy confirmation, payment schedule and insurer's contact information together. Set reminders before arrival and expiry so that changes can be discussed in time.
