A pre-existing condition does not tell you, by itself, whether a parent can buy Super Visa insurance or whether a particular claim would be covered. The answer depends on the chosen policy, its eligibility questions and its definition of a stable condition. Start by separating two questions: can this person purchase the plan, and what medical events does that plan insure?
What does “stable” mean in the policy?
Do not substitute “my parent feels well” for the insurer's definition. Ask the advisor to show you the relevant wording, including how it treats medication adjustments, new symptoms, tests and treatment. The period being assessed and any exceptions must come from the actual policy.
For an example of why wording matters, Manulife's published Enhanced visitors policy describes a 180-day stability requirement and additional heart and lung exclusions. That example is not a rule for every insurer, product or applicant. Confirm the current policy version when requesting a quote.
Build a timeline before answering medical questions
- List diagnoses, recent symptoms and dates of relevant consultations.
- Record medication names and dates of any changes.
- Note outstanding tests, referrals or treatment.
- Identify anything you are unsure about so the insurer can clarify it in writing.
Do not guess an answer because it seems likely to reduce the premium. Ask how to correct an application if you discover an error. Share medical records only through the insurer's appropriate application process, not a public website enquiry form.
Ask for a written explanation
Before paying, ask which conditions are included or excluded, whether coverage changes if health changes before arrival, and who to notify. Keep the application answers and the version of the policy you received. An insurance advisor can explain options; the insurer determines a claim under the contract.
